Stiefvater, M. (2010). Linger. New York: Scholastic. ISBN: 0545123283
Plot Summary
Linger has the wolves and familiar characters of Mercy Falls return in the sequel to Shiver. Sam has recovered from his lycanthropy but is having trouble adjusting to his new life as a full time human. On the other hand, Grace is suddenly inflicted with headaches and other problems that readers know stem from her bite from a wolf when she was younger. New relationships are formed and we now have a four person narrative from Sam and Grace and Isobel and her new crush and newest member of the pack, Cole. Readers are drawn back in the drama and romance and possible destruction of man and wolf.
Critical Evaluation
Once again, Maggie Stiefvater has developed a story that I could not put down. I was surprised when I found out that there was a sequel and I am so glad that I read the first book around the same time that it came out. Perfect timing. Stiefvater has a beautiful way of words that makes wolf and human relationships sound completely normal. Even though the relationship of Sam and Grace develop strongly even though drama occurs, the relationship between Isobel and Cole is undeveloped and kind of annoying. The ending is predictable but was enjoyable and there is still room for more to the story. I can't wait for the next installment!
Readers Annotation
Even though fans may know the ending, they sure can't imagine the beginning.
